Resumen:
The present study aimed to present a clinical case of a female patient who was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, based on the cognitive-behavioral approach. The patient Beth (fictitious name) is a 25-year-old female graduate student from a public university located in the interior of Paraíba/Brazil and was undergoing individual psychotherapy, having had 15 sessions. Attendance occurred at the School Service of a Federal University of the State mentioned above, with a psychology trainee who was weekly guided by a teacher with training in cognitive-behavioral therapy. Interventional techniques included psychoeducation of the cognitive model, anxiety and anxiety disorders, construction of an therapeutic relationship, collaborative empiricism, cognitive restructuring/resignification, evocation of automatic thoughts through socratic questioning, systematic desensitization, Daily Record of Thoughts, evidence exams, Responsibility Pie, cognitive conceptualization, among others. It was noticed that in 15 sessions the patient evolved to deal with the physiological symptoms of anxiety, to understand her cognitive model and the resignification of her central beliefs. Such perception was made possible by the patient's discourse as well as the observation of assertive behaviors that did not exist before.
