Resumo:
The objective was to analyze the relationship between the average family income and the satisfaction with life, observing the function exerted by the preoccupations with the economy in this relation. 150 university students participated in this study (age: M = 20.65, SD = 4.76). In addition to sociodemographic issues such as family income, measures of satisfaction with life and concerns about the economy were used, as well as a subjective question about the relationship between variables. The results showed that the relationship between family income and life satisfaction was mediated by concerns about the personal economy (not the Brazilian economy). On the open question, one category stood out in the analysis of content: Concern with the economy as determinant of satisfaction with life (40.17%). Taken together, these results portray the relevance of the concern with the economy as the defining of satisfaction with students' lives, showing that the direct relationship between income and satisfaction is affected by this variable.
