This dissertation aims to analyze the social representations of youth present in the Sociology textbooks approved in PNLD 2018, questioning how young people from rural areas or small cities, specifically from the Brazilian semiarid region, are or are not represented in these materials. Thus, what calls our attention at the moment is the treatment that textbook authors (and the publishers responsible for these books) give to different representations, or eve n todifferent types of young people and youth expressions, reinforcing social positi ons andsymbolic mechanisms of exclusion
