Resumo:
The incorporation of the theme business management in the various organizational sectors is a
growing reality today. The changes in behavior of society, new technologies and the concern
for the environment are some of the justifications for the implementation of environmental
management systems aiming at operational practices and the sustainable development of
enterprises. The present research was carried out in a soap and derivatives industry in the city
of Sousa-PB, aiming to investigate the managers' perception about environmental
management practices. The methodology used was the application of a questionnaire being
characterized as exploratory, descriptive, bibliographical and field. The results show that the
company did not adopt a system of environmental management, but a total of (66.66%) of
respondents stated that this implementation is in the company's plans. For (50.0%) of
employees the company has not yet adopted an environmental management system why don't
suffer pressure from the legislation. With regard to the indicators used in the study of cleaner
production (100.0%) of respondents stated that the company did not adopt any mechanism of
conservation of water or energy. The research can serve as the basis for a deeper study of all
industries of the Sousa-PB.
