This paper attempts to reflect on the textbook as a didactic resource, as well as to analyze its potential and limitations at the heart of the teaching-learning process in the objective reality of the school. The experiment took place in a Municipal School of 1st Degree Luiz Cartaxo Rolim, in the city of Cajazeiras - Paraíba. It is worth mentioning that at first, I encountered some obstacles in the internship field, due to strikes and recess, reducing the internship period at school a little. The intention of this work is precisely to alert the teachers who use the material referent, trying to give a new perspective in the work with the textbook with a view to improving the teaching-learning process.
