Resumo:
The advancement of communication-related technologies, notably the Internet, has brought
combined adaptations to an increasingly connected and accelerating world. The application of
fiber optics to networks has revolutionized web browsing, reaching speeds previously
unimaginable. This technical production had as general objective to know the coverage area
of Internet by Fiber Optic of the ISP WRlink Telecom Provider in the urban area of the
municipality of Sousa - PB. The theoretical discussion dealt with the evolution and the
relationship between Internet, Web, Intranets and Extranets; Wireless networks; Infrastructure
for information technology; E-commerce and e-business; And fiber optics. The
methodological procedures were defined in an exploratory and descriptive research regarding
the ends, in a field and documentary study on the means and in a qualitative approach. The
neighborhoods of the urban area of the Municipality of Sousa-PB were chosen as the field of
study and the documentary examination investigated individual and legal client registries,
technical reports of Internet coverage by Fiber Optics and integrated files and systems of
Google Maps and Geogrid Maps. Thematic cartography was adopted as a form of data
treatment. Among the main results, it was concluded that the municipality of Sousa-PB,
constituted by 33 neighborhoods in the urban area of the headquarters, has 25 of them covered
by Fiber optic, representing a total of 75.75% coverage and that in this sense one can List 3
negative points, they are: Difficult transport to areas farthest from the urban zone, Costbenefit and Fragility of fiber optic cable.
