I will try to reflect in this work a little of what I learned about textbooks. My experience took place at Antonio Gomes Barbosa State School, in the city of São José de Piranhas. At first, the teachers ignored the theme, being indifferent making me think that there would be no contribution in the sense of together looking for a way to better work the textbook. In the second moment there were reactions of interests on the part of the teachers. So I came to believe in the possibility of doing this work. Fazia (1994) points out that the textbook is one of the instruments that has the privilege to guarantee the bourgeois ideology. This ideology is often transmitted from pictures, situations, narrated stories and mainly from moral and linguistic concepts, etc. However, whatever the way of working, the textbook, this assumes a significant role since "it is an element as present in the classroom as the teacher" with those teachers who even forbid students who had not brought in the room The present work presents a critical reflection of the practice with the textbook in the day-to-day of the school.
