Resumen:
The research dissertation on the subject of labor market and women's role in the banking
sector due to the portion of this population have to live in his professional life with
discrimination and prejudice, even showing their ability. This research aimed to identify the
main difficulties of experience in the labor market faced by women working in bank branches
in the city of Sousa / PB. As theoretical foundations were discussed issues related to the
submission and female empowerment, the inclusion of women in the labor market, difficulties
and achievements, as well as considerations of gender pro-equity program, on the banking
sector in Brazil and finally on the role of women in this sector. The methodological aspects
that guided the research involve a descriptive quantitative study, including 7 banks, and with
the data collection a structured questionnaire instrument with professional data, perception of
gender equality and data demographic partners with closed questions, open and semi-open.
The data were analyzed and main results, it is observed that they perceive behavioral
differences in the performance of tasks carried out between men and women, treatment is seen
as equal, but isolated cases have been pointed out by some. The most important factors in
reconciling personal life and work were considered by them dialogue, frank and open
relationship between the spouses, the efficient time management and prioritization of the
family at the expense of career advancement. It is noteworthy among their responses a
notorious difficulty in reconciling work and family and that it undermines the professional
growth of the same. As for obstacles to growth on the profession, banking women believe that
family, the hours, the prejudice against them and the need for mobility are the major
impediments and harmful for faster career advancement. Finally, this research aims to
contribute to a better observation of the role of women in our society.
