Resumo:
The current study aims to conceptualize criminally what the serial killers are, how
they act and the influence caused by the media to the criminal image. It is common to
believe that serial killers are fictional characters from American movies, making
society and especially the police do not pay attention to strange behaviors. The serial
killer in Brazil is usually randomly discovered after being arrested and confess his
crimes. Thus, it will have as general objective to conceptualize and characterize the
serial killer, highlighting the key points that must be considered to define this type of
criminal, as well as discussing the current measures used in Brazilian legislation to
sentence them. Specifically, it will be analyzed the action given by the media to this
type of criminal and the impact caused to society. The theme will be exposed in three
chapters, where the first exposes a brief historical evolution and conceptualization of
the serial killer; the second makes an approach to the juridical aspects about the
subject, emphasizing the legislative omission and the possible treatments that are
given by the Brazilian justice system; concluding, the third chapter will connect the
first two to substantiate the analysis of the action given by the media and the social
consequences caused by this influence from the analysis of concrete cases occurred
in brazil. Exploratory methods are used as research methods, while for the object,
the qualitative method is used, and as research techniques, the bibliographic method
is used.
