Résumé:
In the era of globalization and strong competition, both private and public organizations have
come to require even more efficient management systems and competent leadership to extract
the best from their work teams. In this scenario, organizations begin to understand that
leadership plays an important role in corporate strategies, change actions, and the
performance of effective teams. Faced with the importance of the leader in team management,
this work had as objective to evaluate the performance of the leaders in the performance of
teams of the Post Offices in Sousa and Cajazeiras / PB, in the perception of the leaders. For
this, it became necessary to characterize and identify the predominant style of leadership in
the managers from the model of Bass and Avolio (1997), that establishes three styles of
leadership: Transformational, Transactional and Laissez-Faire, and to verify which of these
styles The highest performance indices of the teams. As for the methodology adopted for the
research, it is characterized as an exploratory and descriptive case study, of a quantitative
nature. Leadership style data were collected through the Bass and Avolio (1997) questionnaire
called Multifactor Leadership Questionarie (MLQ). In order to collect performance data,
secondary data from reports on teams' pacing instruments and results in the ECT were used to
measure the performance of the teams. The results of the research indicated that in relation to
leadership, the transactional style is the preponderant between the managers of both agencies,
with a greater influence of the administration factor by exception. Regarding the performance
of agency teams, they performed very satisfactorily in the Commercial Performance Indicator
and IOP (Operational Valuation Index), mainly in the IOP. The results of the research allowed
to confirm the relationship between leadership style and team performance, with emphasis on
the transactional leadership that showed to be positively related to the performance of teams
from the cities of Sousa and Cajazeiras / PB.
