Resumen:
This research aimed investigate the predominant type of organizational commitment
of the technical administrative employee in the Central UFCG library. The model
adopted in this survey was the conceptualization of three components of
organizational commitment proposed by Meyer and Allen (1991), quoted by Medeiros
and Enders (1998). This model provides that organizational commitment consists of
three components: affective, instrumental and normative. In the affective component
of commitment the individual remains at work because he or she wants. In the
instrumental component the individual remains at work by necessity and in the
individual component remains at work because he or she feels in the moral obligation
to stay. As search strategy, it was opted by the descriptive and exploratory studying.
For collecting data it was used a questionnaire containing the socio-demographic
profile of employees and the scale of measurement of commitment which is used to
measure the commitment in the face of the three bases conceptualized by the above
template. This scale was developed by Meyer and Allen (1991) and modified in 1993
by Meyer, Allen and Smith, according to Medeiros and Enders (1998). As results of
the analysis of data on the socio-demographic profile of employees it was found
female sex predominance; Assistant role in administration; the full degree of higher
education; but still, predominance of married, revealing individuals who would, in
principle, more commitment to the organization. The results concerning working time
in UFCG showed that the employees are more than 10 years working in the
institution. As to the commitment, which is predominant between technical
administrative employees in the Central UFCG Library is the affective, followed
secondly by normative and finally the instrumental. We can thus conclude that,
predominantly, the employee of the Central Library of UFCG remain at the institution
because they wish.
