Resumo:
The present research examined the origin of the mass media in Brazil and the historical
context of that time, approaching the current “media colonelism” as a historical
evolution from the colonelism of the first republic. In which mass media have
constituted mechanisms of power as a straight consequence of the weakness and
inefficacy of the devices that regulate the concession of radio and TV services,
exposing the dynamic and influence of the colonelism over the country’s
communication system and its involvement with the State in the current democratic
regime, emphasizing the relation between parliamentarians and the social
communication and how this media concentration hurts fundamental principles and the
democracy itself. For this, the deductive history and bibliographic method was used,
which was based on research in doctrines, jurisprudence, scientific articles, normative
species and in the Federal Constitution of 1988. It is worth mentioning that the theme
is relevant, since is a subject that generates controversy and that is not debated in the
legal area.
