Resumen:
The current competitive needs of business the boost towards the implementation of
goals and challenges related to the use of concepts, tools and methodologies that
lead to cost reduction and improvement of its activities. Quality management is one
of the methodologies used to achieve such goals through the use of Quality Systems.
Thus, the implementation of a Quality Management System in a department
inventory, contributes in many ways for the better management of the sector and
reducing its costs. In this context, this study aimed to highlight the contributions of
quality management in inventory costs of a retail furniture company City Sousa - PB.
The research is classified as the objectives as exploratory and descriptive; on the
technical procedures such as literature and case study, using the non-participant
observation and semi-structured interviews for data collection and qualitative
procedures for analysis and interpretation of data. The search is based on inductive
method. In the study, it was found that the company performs inventory management
in an intuitive manner and do not use any tool or quality management system. During
data analysis, were raised some opportunities to improve the department's
management of the company's inventories through better process control system;
training in quality by the employees and the manager of the inventory department;
implementing rules and flowcharts that demonstrate a clear and objective way, the
progress of activities and continuous monitoring of the same; so that problems are
detected and resolved automatically. These optimization opportunities will certainly
improve the management of the inventory process industry, minimize the occurrence
of errors in the performance of activities and decrease the occurrence of costs from
the current form of management of that sector.
