Resumo:
The market competition is increasingly fierce and a study of the products storage
process can generate competitive advantage for the company that can manage them
more efficiently in order to reduce costs and can provide attractive prices to
customers. The present study aimed to determine how the sizing of safety stock can
affect the performance of a small supermarket in the city of Arcoverde / PE, using the
ABC classification. Thus the present study was developed through an exploratory
and descriptive research, using existing analysis software in the supermarket data,
qualitative and quantitative way, and through these, was created and sized safety
stock. The results presented highlight the contributions that the determination of
safety stock, along with the use of the ABC classification, offer to facilitate inventory
management, which occurs through the reduction of inventory cost, minimization of
stock out, dividing the items into classes according to importance, among others. It is
recommended for future studies the use of control tools used in this work, as well as
adding to these other types of control and inventory management tools, or even use
these other tools in isolation.
