Resumen:
The relationship between a system of environmental management and
competitiveness has drawn attention of many researchers and society, so as to
capture the benefits between the two variables. This work aims to identify the
possible contributions of the environmental management system ISO 14001:2004 for
the competitiveness of a company in the city of Sousa - PB. For it is presented in the
theoretical framework of how the environmental variable and environmental
management fall in the economy, as the system is organized environmental
management standard, how it is structured competitiveness, according to Coutinho &
Ferraz (1993) and benefits face in this respect according to some authors. The
research took place in a processing company ice cream and popsicles city cited
where categorizes as a case study. Using this research method, we sought
information through the intensive use of forms, interviews and non-participant
observation. The data were grouped and analyzed according to the principles of the
referenced standard and the competitive dimensions of Coutinho & Ferraz (1993),
used as the basis for this work. In the third part of the discussion were raised some
possible contributions of the environmental management system for business
competitiveness. Contacted on the environmental management results in weak
situation and competitiveness of the company at a moderate level. Moreover, it can
be inferred that with improved environmental management crafted raise the index of
organizational competitiveness.
