Resumen:
Smallholders are of great relevance to the social and economic development of the country.
However, the vast majority of smallholders presents serious management deficiencies,
requiring consultancy on management issues to achieve greater income at their Agricultural
Production Units. The goal of this research was to understand the basic aspects of the
administration of smallholders at Nazarezinho – PB, all of them participants at Agroamigo, a
credit program for smallholders at Brazil. The method used was a field investigations with
semi-structures interviews and interpretative analysis. The main results of the research show
that there are low education level at the smallholders researched, inefficiency of technical
assistance agencies in supporting the producers with techniques and models of farm
management and low level of knowledge about the management of expenses, profit and loss.
We conclude that it is essential the involvement of technical assistance as a liaison between
the participants in the management of the smallholders production units, especially related to
management tools like register in field notebook, monitoring and survey of the properties
recorded in the last agricultural year.
