Resumo:
Motivation is an important factor to be studied, because this element can interfere
with the performance of an individual in the workplace. The present study has aimed
to evaluate which aspects connected to the motivation affect the performance of the
Company’s internal servers Water and Sewage of Paraiba – Regional Management
Rio do Peixe - CAGEPA-GRRP. In order to achieve this goal, it has been traced four
specific goals: to characterize the company and the socioeconomic profile of the
servers; to verify in which way CAGEPA-GRRP and the servers define the goals in
the organizational environment; to identify the main factors capable of stimulating
motivation, in the severs’ view; and to verify which the main factors capable of
affecting the performance of the servers are. The approach of the problem was done
qualitatively and the research strategy adopted was the case study. It was carried out
a survey in researches about human behavior, motivation at work and the main
motivational theories. From that, it was noticed that the goal setting theory
approaches with greater emphasis the relationship between motivation and
performance and because of that, this theory has based the study. The data
collection together with the research subjects occurred through interviews. After this
step, it was chosen the content analysis method for the analysis and interpretation of
data. The results obtained in the research were presented through the categories
which emerged from the interviews. It is concluded that some employees plan goals
in order to organize their work, but most of them does not have this habit, since some
of the services are not programmed and the most used means by CAGEPA-GRRP
for transmitting information about the services are documents and verbal
communication. The most mentioned factors as stimulus for the motivation were:
having good work conditions, good relationship with the workmates in the company
and good salary, although it has been commented in many testimonials that
CAGEPA-GRRP is not concerned about practicing actions for stimulating the
motivation of their collaborators. It has been verified that the main factors capable of
affecting the employees’ performance are the goals, aptitudes, type of chief
supervision, the environment and the recognition. The results of this study were
confronted with the theory of the establishment of goals and other motivational
theories.
