Resumo:
The contemporary concept of environmental management encompasses the bringing of new
ideas related to the need to remain in an increasingly globalized market. This management is
intrinsically related to ways of dealing with environmental responsibility, then it is necessary
to aggregate the business strategies and ethics, which can meet the needs of groups, as these
are affected by the activities of these organizations, seeking not only to economic
development but also social development and environmental preservation. Social
responsibility currently holds greater importance in the business sector, and is based on the
economic, social and environmental, should be aggregated business activities and ensuring the
collective well-being of present and future generations. The study outlines on the evaluation
of the practice of environmental management in companies in the food segment of the
industrial sector of the city of Sousa-PB and the profile of the main manager in relation to
environmental issues, including the verification of the level of awareness among companies
about the environmental management describing and opening discussion on the
environmental Management Systems employees the same and if these systems are referred
utilizados.A research was conducted by checking whether the companies in the study, practice
some form of environmental management and the profile of the front of the main manager this
issue. To get the expected result was used as a method of inductive approach, in order to
arrive at certain conclusions which through the sample companies were found. Procedures
were employed historical-evolutionary, scaled to a brief history of environmental issues to the
awakening of awareness about the preservation of the environment. The use of questionnaires
and interviews to exploratory and descriptive research technique was to present a qualitative
diagnosis of concern for environmental issues in companies in the study used the technique of
bibliographical, documentary research for the formation of the theoretical framework used by
study. Being featured in companies sousenses, although a small proportion of these have
adopted Environmental System official form (5%), most of the companies in the study adopts
practices that aim to reduce the consumption of water and energy, process waste reutilize
productive and have been investing in the purchase of equipment for reducing emissions of
pollutants, behavioral changes regarding environmental and social concerns, which directly
influence the course of action and develop their activities. As the profile of managers
concluded that the same in the near future will develop their activities under environmental
practices, once on your profile has characteristics of the spirit of solidarity through group and
respect for others and to life, respect for the rights of consumer, good air quality and job
satisfaction, which shows that managers give importance to the quality of the living
environment.
