This article is an experience report about the use of Thematic Drawing with Story as a playful and therapeutic resource to work with hospitalized children for cancer treatment. With support of specific Supervised Internship Practices in Health Psychology area, the use of this projective technique aimed to facilitate the therapeutic opening of a speech space, so that infants could become aware about obscure material related to emotions, cognitions and behaviors that emanate from the disease and cancer treatment, during hospitalization period. Between the period of November 2014 to June 2015 were applied 16 drawings stories, with both sexes children, aged from 06 to 11 years. The experience of linking the use of this projective technique and psychological interventions in the hospital context has shown that the projective technique Thematic Drawing with Story despite being recognized as a playful and investigative feature, in action provides therapeutic effects. Through imagery dimension illustrated in the drawings it was possible to give voice to the contingencies caused by childhood cancer diagnosis; hospitalization as a traumatic process for children; arising to the suffering of countless invasive procedures as a result of cancer treatment. Finally, it was observed that this projective technique optimizes the construction of a welcoming space for children that are in vulnerable situations, facing the feeling of powerlessness front the illness, instead, it was found that the playful feature Drawing with Story incites imagination and creativity, in this way, it allows the child to experience a playful manner subjective experiences about the diagnosis, hospitalization and treatment.
