Abstract:
The act of breastfeeding is something historical and that has been shaping through the ages, from the influences of the environment in which society finds itself. The World Health Organization recommends that exclusive breastfeeding be offered to children up to 6 months of age and supplemented up to 2 years. Objective: To identify factors that influence early weaning in children younger than 6 months. Method: This is an Integrative Review of Literature, made through the advanced online search in the Virtual Health Library, between August and December 2018, resulting a total of 2,320 articles as a population and 07 as a sample after observing the criteria of inclusion and correlation of the documents with the object of study. Results: After analyzing the articles included in the review, the studies denote 04 categories that explain the factors that predispose the failure of breastfeeding: maternal emotional factors, pre and post natal care, sociodemographic factors, and problems related to breasts. Conclusion: New research is needed with new perspectives of correlation to the object of study because there has been little update on the subject in the last 10 years of publication.
