Resumo:
The rural landscapes of the micro-region of Brejo Paraibano are the result of countless farming activities, in which man's interactions with the territory develop. Such landscapes are not static scenarios, but dynamic spaces that transform and adapt to the social and economic needs of the population. The built complexes that accompany this process have played significant roles in defining spatial planning. In this sense, the general objective was to establish the characterization of the landscape and integration of the complexes built in the rural area of the municipality of Areia (PB), chosen as a case study. It is worth mentioning the measurement of the transformations in the space-time dynamics over the period of 33 years, through the GIS approach that allowed the spatial representation of land cover and land use and the discussion on the impacts of socioeconomic activities on the environment. The results showed that the forest areas were transformed into agricultural areas, to the detriment of the need for economic use of arable land and, later, some areas were re-naturalised, destined for forest preservation, favoring the quality of the visual scenarios, establishing leisure functions allied to rural tourism. The evaluation of the built complexes and the scenic landscapes, presented different configurations, mainly due to the characteristics of the territorial space in which they are inserted, besides the productive sectors and resources used. In this context, in light of the above and with the knowledge of the landscape value, there is a need for territorial planning in landscapes shaped by agricultural practices. Furthermore, it should be noted that the visual integration of the built complexes not only promotes internal convenience, but also the
exchange with the surrounding properties by contributing to social and economic evolution.
