Abstract:
This study aimed to analyze the nurses’ of Family Health Strategy (FHS) perception and
their role in the education of people with Diabetes Mellitus (DM), identifying actions
for diabetic foot prevention. This is a descriptive and exploratory study with a
qualitative approach. The research was carried out in the city of Campina Grande-PB,
with 73 nurses who work at the FHS. For the empirical material analysis, the method of
Content Analysis, proposed by Bardin, was used. It was also used the "cloud of words"
technique, which is a graphic form of linguistic data visualization. On the role of nurses
in the education of people with diabetes In relation to self-care for the diabetic foot
prevention in FHS, the results evidenced the importance of the nurses' performance as
health educators, whether in educational groups or even in individual care. Regarding
the actions for the diabetic foot prevention performed during the care of the person with
DM, the words "Orientation", "Lectures" and "Consultations" stood out the most in the
nurses' answers. It can be observed that the activities developed by these professionals
are focused mainly on the user orientation and education. It was also possible to identify
that preventive activities could be more expressive in the routine of professionals,
mainly related to the foot periodic evaluation of people with DM.
