Resumo:
This paper analyzes, in a sociological perspective, the experiences of women who entered the CRRS - due to chemical dependency table. A fter suffering different types of
pressures, stigma and social exclusion, the trajectories of these women are as plural and contradictory as internal that it is fall. The social psychology and symbolic interactionism
by Goffman indicates the trajectories of these women within this total institution. Developed from an ethnographic process - from March 2013 to February 2015 (in
CaruaruPernambuco) - the data gathered through the implementation of methodological
procedures such as participant observation, semidirective interviews, between others,
reveal the daily lives of these women; thisevery day marked by relations of conflicts, tensions, resistance, negotiations, stigmas, power relations, monitoring, control, among
others. The religious conversion is presented – according to the eadership of the center
- from two poles: the call “ sincere conversion” and the “cynical conversion”. In both cases, the new religion can promote these women in progression in their moral careers.
Thus, the data collected and presented in this study invite a rethinking of the term "
total institution "and the power that it develops.
