Abstract:
This research had the objective of investigating the practical theoretical knowledge of nurses who work in the Family Health Strategy (FHS) on diabetic foot. This is a descriptive, exploratory study with a quantitative approach performed with 87 nurses who work in the FHT of two Municipalities of the agreste Paraíba. The data were organized and analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Science 21.0. It was observed a greater predominance of female nurses (97.7%) and 81.6% of the sample had latu sensu titration. 79.3% of the professionals answered that they had not received previous training on the subject, which may reflect on the difficulty in assessing the foot, reported by 83.9% of the sample. The results indicate that nurses present many gaps related to the theoretical knowledge about diabetic foot, especially regarding the signs and symptoms of autonomic neuropathy, tests to evaluate PSP (painful, vibrating, tendon reflexes), number of applications of the tests, interpretation of the results And recommended periodicity of evaluation of the feet, according to the risk classification of the diabetic foot. The place most cited by the nurses to carry out the evaluation test of the loss of plantar protective sensitivity using the 10 gram monofilament of Semmes-Weinstem was the hallux. Therefore, it is important that permanent health education be offered more to these professionals in order to have a better theoretical knowledge about the subject and, consequently, to incorporate foot evaluation in the follow-up appointment of the person with diabetes mellitus.
