Resumo:
The administration of medication is one of the most important responsibilities of the nursing professional. And to ensure the safety of this medication, It is essential that professionals respond to the "right nine" that are patient-centered and are currently advocated, corresponding to the right patient, medication, route, dose, time, record, knowledge about medication action, pharmaceutical presentation and effects monitoring .Objective: To evaluate the knowledge of nursing professionals about the administration of intramuscular medication and to raise difficulties pointed out by him about the administration. Method: This is a quantitative, descriptive study with an exploratory approach. Developed at the University Hospital Alcides Carneiro HUAC - UFCG. All the nursing professionals, crowded at the data collection sites, were approached, the sample consisted of 55 professionals. Data were collected through a questionnaire constructed based on the literature relevant to the subject and in line with the objectives of the study. Results: The participants of the present study were mostly nursing technicians (52.72%) and female (89.09%), aged 30-39 years (43.63%). It was observed that 76.36% of the professionals of the HUAC nursing team did not undertake any update course in medication administration and none of the participants managed to classify the regions of administration of IM medications from the lowest to the highest risk. Conclusion: It is perceived that the administration of drugs is a complex action and its implementation requires nursing professionals to master the technical-scientific knowledge to promote a quality and safe practice, so it is imperative that institutions provide a continuing education, and Thus, promote the updating of professionals on the subject.
