Nutritional supplementation is an ergogenic resource adopted by athletes or practitioners of physical activities, in an attempt to improve their performance. This measure is also used by people who, in some way, have a deficit in certain nutrients. Most of these nutritional supplements can be easily purchased, and the performance of professionals specialized in the area is essential, with the role of intervening in superfluous sales, guiding on the correct use and possible damage to health. It is worth mentioning the role of the pharmacist, who has an important job in raising awareness of the rational use of medicines and not different in nutritional supplementation, a space to be occupied. The present study aimed to survey the scientific literature of the supplements most used by physical activity practitioners, the frequency of consumption, the guidance provided by professionals, with emphasis on the role of the pharmacist in rational use and prescription. This is a review of the narrative-type literature by searching for data in the electronic databases Pubmed, Lilacs, Medline, Scielo, and national and international health committees. Works published in the last 10 years, that is, between 2010 and 2020, in three languages, Portuguese, English and Spanish, were included. The selection sequence was the reading of the title, after the summary and ending the reading of the entire article. , being selected from 57 articles. In the present work it was possible to show the most used supplements, their indication, their performance in body physiology and, finally, to emphasize the role of the pharmacist in the prescription. The use of supplements by practitioners of physical activities is common, so it is of paramount importance the pharmacist to act in the prescription and awareness of rational use. It is important to conduct a survey on a public health problem to raise awareness of the advantages of proper use, to alert to the misuse of these products and the advantages of professional monitoring, with emphasis on the pharmaceutical professional.
