Resumen:
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are one of the most common public health
problems in Brazil and the world, besides being one of the facilitating factors for HIV
infection and possible development of AIDS and can lead to serious complications and even
to death. This group of diseases is transmitted mainly by sex without condom with infected
persons and generally manifest themselves by means of wounds, vaginal discharge, blisters or
warts. This is an integrative review of literature that aimed to know the nursing approach in
the care of STI according to scientific production, and had as its guiding question "What is the
Nursing approach attention to STIs according to scientific production ? ". The descriptors
used were "Service" and "Nursing" and "STD", as well as their respective descriptors in
English and Spanish ("Nursing Care" and "STD" and "Atención de Enfermería" and
"Enfermedades Sexual Transmission"). After full reading of selected works have identified
three categories, which are: 1- Health Education as the main form of approach to STIs, 2 -
women as a focus of attention of nursing; 3 - prejudice as an obstacle to the quality of life for
infected individuals. at the end of work, there was a deficiency in relation to works that focus
on the male public, the elderly and adolescents, as it was realized that nursing has left out
important and focused assignments much in health education that despite its importance, can
not be limited to it alone. in addition, assistance is still suffering too much interference of the
concepts formed by each professional, which ends up hindering the assistance to people with
STIs and therefore their quality of life.
