The reception in the context of the Brazilian Basic Attention constitutes an important device in the qualification process of the care model, is allowing professionals to rethink about their working process, or even allowing the realization of the individual fundamental rights, as universal access to an integral care and fair in public services of health. The research had as general objective analyze the strategy of welcome in basic attention from the external evaluation of the Program for the Improvement of Access and Quality of Basic Attention (Programa de Melhoria do Acesso e da Qualidade da Atenção Básica - PMAQ-AB). This is a descriptive and exploratory study with a quantitative approach, performed with secondary data produced by the Ministry of Health (MS) from the external evaluation of the PMAQ-AB, performed between 2012 and 2013, in 89 teams from the Family Health Strategy. To facilitate the collection of data it was used an instrument elaborated by Ministry of Health, containing variables relevant to the host such as: Host deployed in the team of basic attention, shift and frequency of completion of the host state, professionals taking part in the host state, existence of protocol for reception, urgency and emergency room visits, assessment of risk and vulnerability, actions triggered from the host. The data were analyzed quantitatively by means of figures and percentages, and presented in the form of tables and graphics. The research was submitted to the Research Ethics Committee at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil the protocol no. 21904. As a result it was observed between the Basic Health Units evaluated that 70.8% have oral health. Futhermore, it was identified that the host is not yet configures while an effective practice. The data indicate that 48.3% of teams mentioned does not perform the reception. 51.7% of the teams have informed run the reception in the morning shift, 43.8% in the afternoon shift, no team performs reception during the night. In 46.1% of the teams is held the host five days of the week. Regarding the existence of protocols for host to spontaneous demand/urgency, only 13.5% of teams mentioned possess this protocol, while 43.8% did not know or did not respond. In relation to the professional training of teams for realization of the host state, 48.3% did not know or did not respond when was asked. It was concluded that the strategy of the host has been happening in a timely manner, supported even in the perspective of the hegemonic physician mode, when you expect the achievement of a work interprofessional focused on the needs of users from a qualified listening.
