Résumé:
The illegal trade of illicit drugs is nowadays one of the greatest evils that afflict
society, as of today, it is the second largest trade worldwide. The criminalization of
the drug use began in the 9th century with international world conferences. After
some agreements, it grew the necessity of adopting international cooperation
regarding the control of narcotics. The growth in the use of drugs accompanied the
evolution of society and it continues growing gradually. The crime of drug trafficking
is characterized for being transnational and its reach trespasses the limit of a State,
which makes it impossible for a single nation to combat by itself, in a way that the
borders of a country cannot be a limit for investigations. World conventions were
indispensable for the effectiveness of international cooperation. Therefore, it is
necessary to make a detailed and historical analysis of the evolution of world
conventions and its importance in the context of world cooperation regarding the fight
against drug trafficking. Regarding the context of Brazil in the fight against drug
trafficking, the country was, for a long time, just a passageway for the distribution of
illicit drugs to other countries. Today, it stands out as a large consumer market as
well as for being an important route for the shipment of illicit drugs to Europe and
Africa. Brazil‘s acting in international agreements was analysed alongside with the
national laws about drugs. In the same sense, it was made an analysis of national
policies to combat the use of narcotics and a study on the acting of the Federal
Police and its programs of prevention and repression to drug trafficking.
