Resumo:
Henceforth recognition of militarized police Brazilian model insolvency, it’s resorted the
indication of its origins and a reflection of public safety architecture in conflict with the
Democratic Rule of Law State. First, a historical overview of the public security militarization
process is made, attending to its intensification during the military dictatorship. Then, an
objection is made about the military police structure in Brazil, showing how works its
activities to deal with social affairs, especially selective: "black, poor and slum dwellers". A
police activity with a civil nature as a public service is defended, then, in line with human
rights and Democratic Rule of Law State. Thereafter, the current proposals for
demilitarization are presented, as well as these possible criticisms, leading eventually to the
understanding that the change in the police (military) current model and public security are
indispensable if we seek one equitable society.
