Abstract:
This Thesis is groundend on bibliographical and empirical research about feasts promoted and experienced by a migrant group from the municipality of Varzea alegre, State of Ceara, Brazil, who at the prese nte live in the city of São Paulo. Using diverse research methodologies and techniques – ethnography and interviews - e seek to understand the sociability of “varzealegrenses”(people who were born in Varzea alegre) in the feasts both the day-to-day and the cyclical ones. Some questions quide the research. First, how the varzealegrenses experience the everyday feasts in São Paulo, How they joint, through the feasts, the municipality of Varzea Alegre and Säo Paulo. How the feasts is a link between time and space, considering that they return to Varzea alegre during feast times. We pursue an idea that the feast is much more inside the migrant than it is a memory in the interior of Brazil. The feast migrates, it constitute and is formed in the mobility experience of the varzealegrenses. Besides that, we understand that when the feast gains political connotations , they serve as a common language of the group. We also seek to understand how the migrants manage his past experience. The narratives are the result from interviews with the migrants, added to the direct observation, in both places. In their narrativas, the past is view either as cruel, suffered or in an idealized way, as idilic past. Feelingsof sadness, sorrow, joy, happiness are all mixed.
