Resumo:
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a rapidly growing health problem in virtually every country in the
world. It is estimated that about 415 million people in the world population between 20 and
79 years of age, live with DM. It is known that one of the main forms of non-drug treatment is
nutritional therapy, which works by preventing changes in blood glucose and not delaying or
preventing the appearance of complications, improving the quality of life of members. Thus,
this study aims to identify the nutritional profile of patients treated by the Best at Home
Program affected by DM. This is a quantitative study developed in the Best at Home
Program, in the municipality of Cuité, Paraíba. The research took place through the
application of a semi-structured questionnaire, answered by the patient and / or responsible
caregiver. It was observed that 45% of the total patients registered in the Best at Home
Program, were elderly diabetics type I or type II. In addition, it was found that the majority of
patients were adequately weighted, as well as the average food intake according to the ranges
of values recommended by the guidelines. It was also found that the inadequacy of VET due
to insufficiency was expressed both in patients who were underweight and in those with
adequate weight. Regarding the presence of complications, it was seen that 56% of the total
survey participants did not dissipate any type of complication, while of the 44% dissipated
among them retinopathy and renal complication, and when compared with food consumption,
it was possible to observe the prevalence of inadequacy of vet and macronutrients in patients
with retinopathy, whereas for renal patients, inadequacy for protein was identified only. Thus,
the food consumption found in this research, evidenced the need to seek to understand that
there may be factors that interfere with the results obtained, requiring further investigation.
