Résumé:
In recent decades world interest in environmental issues has increased as natural resources
have dwindled. This scenario has pressured industries to use various techniques to reduce
their environmental impact. Due to societal pressure, environmental laws have become stricter
forcing industry to meet new requirements to be considered environmentally friendly. These
new requirements result in the green seal and ISO 14001 when companies follow a number of
guidelines relating to their certifications and Environmental Management Systems. Taking
these factors into account, this study examined the Environmental Management Systems of a
group of micro and small footwear enterprises in the city of Campina Grande, PB based on
the requirements of ISO 14001. This exploratory research was conducted within eight
companies using a questionnaire consisting of questions related to 14001‟s requirements. The
study‟s data demonstrates that few companies have even basic or minimal environmental
concerns.
