The growing concern about water scarcity has driven public policy to facilitate your access,
use and management. This is the case in a program of training and social mobilization to live
in the semi-arid region: One Million Rural Cisterns (P1MC), an initiative of civil society
organizations and government, which proposes to build cisterns to collect water board Rain
and possible access to water in semi-arid. This study evaluates (P1MC), considering the kinds
of economic contributions, social and environmental improvements in the quality of life of
rural families in the municipality of Soledad-PB. We conducted a field survey of qualitative
and quantitative character, which consisted of questionnaires and interviews with 40
randomly selected rural households in several communities in the municipality of Soledad-
PB. Among the observed results, 95% of households carry water treatment, 100% of
households stated that the water tank is of good quality, 52% said that the water tank is
sufficient for the whole year. The research concluded that the actions P1MC contribute to the
improvement of quality of life for rural families, especially in the reduction of long shifts in
search of water, the reduction of diseases and improving water quality.
