Resumo:
Mental disorders affect about one in ten people worldwide. As a therapeutic strategy,
psychotropic drugs are used on a large scale, which requires attention due to the possibility of
causing addiction. The present research aimed to evaluate the prescription and dispensation of
psychotropic drugs in the basic pharmacy of Picuí / PB. This is a cross-sectional, quantitative
and descriptive study, whose sample follow-up was composed of psychotropic users. Data
collection took place through the application of a questionnaire during the period from
November 2018 to May 2019. The purpose was to collect sociodemographic, socioeconomic
data, knowledge of patients about the use of psychotropic drugs and verification of the
suitability of prescription based on ordinance 344/98 Micromedex® was used to identify
possible drug interactions and Potentially Inappropriate Medicines for the Elderly (MPI) were
classified according to the Beers-Fick criterion. The project was submitted and approved by the
ethics committee with opinion number 2,670,536 and the descriptive analysis of the variables
was carried out with the help of SPSS 20.0. 100 users of psychotropic drugs were interviewed,
with a prevalence of females (69%), adults (79%) and married (44%), with low education (57%)
and retirees (33%). Of all 100 prescriptions, 17 presented some non-conformity. The most
prescribed psychotropics were clonazepam (19.2%), fluoxetine (18.4%) and diazepam (12.3%).
We found 20 drug interactions in which the most prevalent was the association between
fluoxetine and diazepam and the presence of at least one MPI in the prescriptions of all the
elderly. It is concluded that the scenario of use of psychiatric drugs in the municipality of Picuí
/ PB is worrying due to the indiscriminate use and inadequate prescriptions, which represents
an opportunity for the pharmacist to act to guide the population and that there are actions that
encourage good practices in prescription, aiming to improve the quality of life of the population.
