Abstract:
The management of municipal solid waste consists important factor to social and environmental responsibility at the expense of local sustainability. The collector of solid waste is an important character for adding value to social discards, segregating and equipping process in terms of sale. Tasks performed in the shed ARENSA, Campina Grande in Paraíba, on the associated workers, outlined this thesis, for allowing the characterization and classification of occupational risks that they are likely. Implementing the research were defined steps required to support the estimated objectives: observation of working methods, characterization of materials of interest; assessment of imminent physical, chemical and biological hazards of the work, preparation of risk‟s matrix, and propose map risks. It was note that the working conditions are unhealthy and proffer operational risks through participatory and exploratory research, the default use of personal protection and use of inappropriate tools and endowment of the body to process the volume reduction of solid waste equipment. 16 different types of materials were observed, following the terminology adopted by the waste pickers. Physical risks were identified for white paper, plastic grille, PEAD, PVC, thin and hard aluminum, glass fittings and in the extraction of copper coil, chemical hazards have been identified for plastic PEAD, bowls and glasses and biological risks were found in 15 the products except for the copper coil. Evaluated occupational risks, via implementation of risks and default risks for Occupational Health and Safety array - ROSS, it was possible to classify as despicable 43.75%, 43.75 % and 12.5 % moderate critics, being all of the above standards estimated to safety as accidents and worker health. The proposition of the risk map esteems intensive use of gloves and sanitizing with chlorine because of physical and biological risks. Glasses and masks should be used as preventive and chemical risks.
