Resumen:
Sustainable development is the great paradigm of human development today. Therefore, new
methodologies for system planning and management, and especially for water resources,
should be developed, as well as new ways of evaluating the performance of these systems,
which are no longer limited to pure economic evaluation, but are also aimed toward social and
environmental sustainability. Thus, information systems are of paramount importance to help
decision making regarding the planning and management of water resources, mainly to
improve the information provided by such systems, such as: graphics, images, tables,
diagnostics, etc. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis was to develop an adaptive information
system, which can be accessed via the Internet, consisting of the user interface, database
structured according to metrology concepts and a series of calculations for watershed
characterization. These calculations relate to topography, slope, retention curves, indicators,
etc., which can be viewed through tables and graphs to help better understand the system,
facilitating the process of decision making. The SI developed here was designed as a web
application that uses Internet browsers such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, and
others. The development of the system was performed by using free software. The system
interface was developed using the Java platform, including Java Server Faces, Java Server
Pages, XML, Html, Ajax, among others. The database uses PostgreSQL as the database
manager, and created a series of tables linked through primary and foreign keys which contain
the main data such as User Registration, municipalities, institutions, Rivers, Basins, Sub-basins,
Measurement Stations, Irrigation, Crops, Perimeters, Units of Measurement, reservoirs, among
others. The software developed for manipulating and updating tables, data, and data types
allows the user to perform the tasks of renaming fields, adding new fields, deleting fields,
creating new tables, deleting tables, renaming tables, among others, which help the
development team of the project and the future maintenance of the system.
