workers in Brazil. This fact gives more responsibilities to the managers of health to
adopt actions to solve this problem. The intent of this work is to know how the public
health policies have been contributing to the prevention of silicosis in workers in the
city of Pedra Lavrada. In order to achieve this objective, it was used methodology of
interview application and questionnaire with the workers of informal activities in
mining and with the secretariat of health of the city, having approached silicosis, the
public politics in health of the worker, environment health and prevention. The results
found indicate that the workers are unaided in relation to work’s security, the lack of
their involvement in the planning of the public policies of worker’s health in the city,
the worker’s and the secretariat of health’s ignorance in relation to the environment
health e their repercussion on the humans and the inexistence of simple measures that
are universally adopted as reference in the silicosis’ prevention.
