Resumo:
To promote economic growth and development of organizations, maintaining harmony with
the environment and undertaking the life in all its plenitude, that is the great challenge for
managers. The exploitation of natural resources due to the technological development and the
capitalist exploitation, expressed in human pressure on the ecosystem, have been sustained by
maintaining standards of production and consumption incompatible to the regenerative
capacity of nature. This kind of society is fueled by egocentric human factors, in which the
rapid degradation of the nature and of the ecosystems is coming to become unsustainable.
Finding the right balance between technology and environment, to ensure the quality of life
and sustainability of businesses, awakened us to understand what moves the human being to
do so. It was noted, after preliminary studies, that the spirituality would be a contributing
factor to improve this relationship and also the performance of the enterprise in the pursuit of
sustainability; thus, it was tried to get response to the problem of how to integrate the
dimension of spirituality in assessing corporate social responsibility (CSR). The objectives
were defined in order to propose a model of corporate social responsibility (CSR) that would
incorporate the dimension of spirituality. The followed way passed by a historical approach
and by the conceptual presentation of some existing models related to the variables in the
study, in order to arrive to a definition and to the model of corporate spiritual and social
responsibility (CSSR), using for this purpose, the model of Carroll (1979) and the pillars of
spirituality of Vasconcelos (2008). The developed model was applied in an industry of
alcohol production in the state of Paraiba, chosen due to accessibility, in which two
questionnaires were applied, one of CSR for nine managers and other one for 31 individuals
in several functions in the enterprise, besides to interview some people involved with the
industry and with the object of the study. For evaluation of the data spreadsheets were
prepared and it was created an evaluation scale with seven levels of CSSR. Finally, a model
of CSSR was structured. In the overall assessment, the studied enterprise has reached the
performance level of the CSSR classified as "slightly satisfactory", corresponding to the P5 of
the proposed scale. The advantages of the model indicate a proactively relationship that
pushes the conscience of the people to act with responsibility in the personal and professional
lives, also it highlights the ease of visual tracking of business performance through a chart
type radar, with which it is possible to accomplish several correlation of performance, among
the pillars and globally. In turn, the paper highlights several researches that could be
developed from the proposed model.
