The use of wildlife has been perpetuated throughout history. In contemporary societies, animals are used for various purposes. The utilitarian value of wildlife has also encouraged the hunting of wild animals. The objective of this study was to analyze the past and current uses of wildlife in areas of mesoregion Agreste the state of Paraíba, based on oral reports of hunters and area residents regarding those hunt practices between the years 1940 and 2012. Information was obtained through free interviews with techniques of oral history as well as the application of form semi-structured. Data were analyzed by calculating the value of use local (VU) and conservation priority species (PC) and the life stories analyzed in order to accurately identify thematic elements to corroborate with the search. A total of 48 area residents interviewed mentioned the use of 79 species (43 families) of wild vertebrates to ten distinct purposes: Zooterapy use, folk veterinary medicine, cosmetic use, use for mystic religious, creation/domestication, commercial exploration, ornamental use, to food, relations of leisure and hunting control. The techniques most often used to catch the animals were to chase hunting with firearms and assistance dogs and trapping. Regarding reports about the history of hunting in the area of research, were interviewed more broadly eight people: three hunters, two religious leaders, a community leader, a teacher and a local environmentalist. All these interviews contributed to the construction of a probable relationship between the history of each individual and their relationship with the local faunal biodiversity. The present work was realized that the lack of studies regarding history of hunt and forms of exploitation of wildlife resources is a barrier that hinders the assessment of priorities for conservation and management, disallowing a secure inventory of animal species suffering greater use of pressure, but, even with this barriers surely noticed that the interaction between the man and the wildlife is one of the most significant forms of exploitation of natural resources in the areas studied. It was noticed also that the socio - cultural and economics characteristics are indispensable at the time of evaluating the implications of this relations that the human experience the environment around them as well as fundamental for the development of public political to maintain social and ecological.
