Abstract:
The challenge of accessing, processing and distribution has meant that governments, academia and businesses seek for not only new sources and technologies, but also the efficient management of water resources. With current consumption patterns, hardly ever the next generations will have access to quality water. It foresees that women and children will be the most affected, especially in the poorest countries. This research posits to put a magnifying glass into the management of water resources issues, especially in water supply for human consumption and the relationship between water supply and demand. The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between water supply and demand in the municipalities served by Gravatá's Water Treatment Unit (WTU). For this ends, comparable official and public data - from Water and Sewerage Company of Paraiba (CAGEPA), National Water Agency (ANA), National Sanitation Information System (SNIS) and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) - were used. Respecting methodological the academic rigor, the data was available, organized, analyzed and treated statistically based T-student Model (PEARSON, 1895) to assess the degree of confidence. The results of this work show that there is no statistical relationship between treated water for consumption supply and demand within the eight municipalities served by the Gravatá's WTU, which is a strong indicator of poor water resources management. Thus, not only reflection but also further researches on the subject are proposed here to contribute to the improved management of water resources and state public policies.
