Resumo:
Among the most discussed topics today, the emergence of agricultural
sustainability has gained more and more ground in the face of socioeconomic
and environmental problems resulting from the adoption of the principles of the
Green Revolution by family agriculture, which, increasingly, threatens the
survival of the humanbeing and other animal species. Hence, the aim of this
study was to evaluate the comparative and cross way the sustainability of
agroecosystems six family members (three referenced and three alternates) in
rural community located in Areia - PB through the Framework for the Evaluation
of Systems Resource Management natural Incorporating Sustainability
Indicators (MESMIS). In terms of methodology, the study was conducted by
applying the operational structure of MESMIS, which involved collection of
secondary, primary data and applying the technique of non-participant
observation. This data was analyzed using quantitative and qualitative
techniques. In this sense, were pre - defined a set of 19 indicators, which
assesses the conditions of the systems not desirable (1.0), regular (2.0) and
desirable (3.0 ) allowed visualization aspects that need improvement to achieve
sustainability by systems evaluated. Although most of these conditions have
undesirable variations between not desirable and regular, two of them, one
regular and one alternate that showed a varying condition from regulate to
desirable. The alternative system achieved the highest benchmarks. We have
seen that alternative systems have higher demand on improving the economic
aspects while references have urgent need for improving the environmental
aspects. However, given the necessary quest for equity in achieving
sustainability, it is considered that all the systems analyzed, regardless of the
condition they are in, can and should seek concurrent and regular improvement
of all aspects that involve search for a better quality of life for families forming
part of them.
