Abstract:
Agriculture should be established to engage the social, political, economic, cultural and ecological region. In this sense, the use of these resources in a sustainable manner enables the development of this activity in the long term and, consequently, the development site. To better assess the actions of agricultural production systems and outline future prospects arise sustainability indicators as tools that can guide the planning and management of activities enabling the development of agriculture with a view to sustainability. Given the above, this research aimed to assess the sustainability of agricultural production systems five vegetable crops under conventional and agroecological farming community Pau Ferro in Lagoa Seca - PB, by applying the method IDEA. The research was characterized as exploratory and descriptive, oriented in the form of a case study from field visits and application forms along the five owners, selected for developing transitional agroecological farming practices and conventional grow vegetables all year round and submit homogeneity of products grown in the conditions of land tenure and management practices on some soil. The selection of indicators was made from the technical, spatial, economic and human properties, based on primary and secondary data. Of the 42 indicators suggested by the method, we selected 39, distributed among the dimensions Agroenvironmental (18) Socio-territorial (17) Economic (4). Data analysis was taken into consideration criteria analysis method IDEA. The results showed that the five properties evaluated, P1-TA achieved the best sustainability indices in three dimensions, a good indication of the importance of agricultural activities developed production systems in agroecological transition to local sustainability. In the other properties, it was found a series of problems that are seen from the perspective of sustainability, represent weaknesses in the dimensions Agroenvironmental and Socio-territorial, limiting the development of sustainable production systems. In this case, mitigation measures should be directed to the problems identified, seeking greater balance between the three dimensions, to better achieve local sustainability.
