The fragments of vegetation in urban areas are being reduced and this
compromises the stability of watersheds and the survival of living beings, now and in
the future. The springs of Riacho das Piabas are located in the Serra da Borborema (PB)
and are fresh water. It is an area included in a rural and urban area (Mata do Louzeiro)
that integrals three cities (Puxinanã, Lagoa Seca and Campina Grande) that still has
remnants of native flora and fauna. The main objective of this research was to
understand the social, economic, technological and environmental aspects and assess of
degree deterioration of this region to further policies as helping to manage the newly
established metropolitan area of Campina Grande. In accordance with the methodology
proposed by Baracuhy (2001) and based in Rocha (1997) a questionnaires was prepared
with scores of 1 to 10, which best condition 1 and worst condition 10. The data obtained
after the interviews generated linear equations that showed deterioration social
(29.33%), economic (67.59%), technology (75.82%) and environmental (42.86%) for
inadequate use of natural resources and the absence of public policies. The respondents
said that the priority was the safety deficiency, the poor roads, insufficient of medical
and dental care and lack of technical worker assistance. As a general prognosis it is
recommended that attention is urgently given to introduce a basic policy in this region
