Resumo:
In this work we study and analyze Higher Education in Brazil, the development of
Student Assistance Policy as the democratization of higher education and the
development of this policy in the Federal Institutes mechanism. This research aims to
analyze the profile of higher education students covered by the Policy Student
Assistance IFPB Campus Sousa, checking the socioeconomic conditions of these
students, the main difficulties faced by them, as well as the reasons that led them to
seek the student assistance programs. The methodology used was the literature and
documents, where the work of many authors who discuss the subject were analyzed,
as well, and documents relating to student assistance laws. The reflections
presented in this paper are exploratory, critical analysis and a quantitative and
qualitative approach. The research identified from an analysis of the socioeconomic
profile of students of senior courses IFPB - Sousa, that most students do not have
contemplated favorable economic conditions to attend that type of education, thus
showing the importance of this program for their lives academic. These data proved
important with regard to better identify the difficulties present in the daily lives of
these students, always with a view to seeking to improve the mechanisms of
residence in accordance with the present reality.
