Resumen:
This study aims to treat the skills and exclusive duties of the social worker in the
areas of mental health. To reach this goal, there was bibliographic nature of
research, which sought to trace the historical development of Social Work in
Brazil, highlighting its conservative heritage and the process of renewal of the
profession as well as the construction of ethical political project. Identifies the
challenges posed to the social worker in the execution of powers and exclusive
competence in their professional practice in the context of neoliberal policy in
which materialize the main difficulties put to this practice. As a result of this
research aims to contribute to the academic debate on the subject, as well as
the professional practice of / social workers who materializes in health and more
specifically in mental health, stressing the importance of a professional ethical
practice and quality, and based on the principles of the Code of Ethics that
guide professional practice. And considering the importance of social workers
inserted in multidisciplinary teams of CAPS - Psychosocial Care Center.
