Resumo:
This study addresses the issue of sustainable urban mobility inside the territory of The Federal
University of Campina Campina Grande - UFCG Campus. The concept of walkability and its
importance are discussed, not only for the population quality of life, but also for the progress
of cities. When analyzing the environmental and economic issues related to the problem of
mobility in large urban centers, as well as the most striking aspects in the structure, spatial
planning and urban planning equipment of this campus, it is inferred that the challenges for
the management of the demands in displacements in the urban network extend to the
university territory. The research carried out can be designated, from the methodological
perspective, as an applied nature, with an inductive approach. It can also be classified as
descriptive, incorporating characteristics of a field study, and based on qualitative and
quantitative aspects. The data collection and the evaluation of the walkability index performed
on the campus was based on the methodology proposed in the iCam 2.0, a contrivance
developed by the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy - ITDP. This
contrivance elects fifteen indicators and establishes parameters for its evaluation, instituting
procedures and offering tools to operationalize the analysis. It allows an objective assessment
of the urban environment conditions, and in what way it favors the walking act. From the
result of the evaluation and the elaborated diagnosis, actions were proposed to qualify those
aspects related to indicators that obtained performance considered insufficient, in view of the
parameters established in the methodology. In general, the research identified actions of the
institution in order to qualify the circulation routes, however, it was verified that they are
isolated actions, which do not integrate a program directed to sustainable urban mobility. It
was also pointed out the failures and correctness in the management of mobility demands
inside UFCG campus, highlighting the main limitations and advantages faced by the
managers of the institution, besides proposing objective measures to improve the various
indicators performance of walkability considered in the evaluation of walkability index.
