Radar Absorbing Material (RAM) are made of dielectric or magnetic substances, and are
produced in a way to promote a high absorption of the electromagnetic field intensity incident
on them. Those materials are used in military and civilian areas, anechoic chambers and
insulators. This report discusses the characterization of the level of absorption, in the range of
462.56 MHz and 1.80 GHz, for materials found in local shops. To this end, the measurements
were carried out in ceramic boxes coated with different mixtures of materials. The materials
used were asphalt resin, graphite, asphalt emulsion and unsaturated polyester resin. An
attenuation greater than 50% is obtained when the RAM is composed of asphalt emulsion and
graphite.
