Abstract:
This work has as its main focus the development and description of a RFID
system based on Software Defined Radio (SDR) operating in the UHF band for this
type of application. To introduce the feasibility of applying, important observations are
made about the theory behind these systems. RFID technology has a growing number of
adepts as well as a large volume of research following different lines. The Software
Defined Radio becomes an everyday widely used tool in Telecommunications,
appearing as a solution when there is a need for flexibility and adaptation. The
combination of RFID and SDR technologies has precisely meet these characteristics,
which, among other options, can be exploited mainly for testing, research and
improvement of current systems. In designing the system presented, we used the USRP,
which is a SDR platform, along with its programming tool, GNU Radio. Another
question that requires attention is the correct choice of the antenna for RFID
applications. The project also included the construction of an antenna with specific
characteristics for RFID application. Finally, the results are presented showing the
satisfactory performance of the system while reading commercial tags, operating with
the expected flexibility.
