Abstract:
The textbook is characterized as being a didactic instrument widely used in Brazilian public schools. Despite the improvements over the last decades there are still many absences when it comes to the contextualization and interdisciplinarity of content. The objective of this work was to analyze how the contents referring to the Caatinga biome are treated in two collections of books: "Time of Sciences" of the publisher of Brazil, and "Inside the Geography" of the publishing house Saraiva - both of the 6th and 8th years of Teaching Fundamental, adopted by the public school system and used in the State School of Primary and Secondary Education Vidal de Negreiros, located in the municipality of Cuité-PB. Through a qualitative approach, a documentary analysis was carried out, comparing, through specific criteria, the four textbooks of the collections addressed. Through this research, it was possible to verify that the analyzed books present themselves with different and varied approaches, the contents do not present conceptual errors, however they are quite simplified, with some interdisciplinary approach and little stimulus the search of complementary information. Thus, it is necessary that teachers of science and geography invest in complementary actions in order to better explore the relationships of students with the environment in which they live.
